Carpentry runs through nearly every job we do. Abd and Sons Construction handles both first-fix structural timber and the second-fix joinery that gives a room its finish, as standalone jobs or as part of a larger renovation.
First and second fix
First fix covers the structure you do not see — floor joists, stud partitions, door linings, roof and floor timbers. Second fix is the visible joinery: hanging doors, fitting skirting and architrave, boxing pipes, building fitted wardrobes and shelving, and putting in or repairing staircases.
- Stud partition walls and door openings
- Internal doors, frames, architrave and skirting
- Staircases — new, repairs and balustrades
- Fitted wardrobes, alcove units and shelving
- Loft and floor timber strengthening
- Decking, gates and external timber work
Fireplace and stove framing
Fitting a stove often means building out or reshaping the chimney breast, framing a new recess, and fitting a timber mantel beam. We carry out that carpentry alongside the tiling, plastering and hearth work so the finished feature looks built-in, not added-on.
Common questions
Do you build fitted wardrobes to measure?
Yes, from simple painted alcove units to full run-of-wall wardrobes with hanging, shelving and drawers.
Can you replace just a few treads or the balustrade on a staircase?
Yes. We repair staircases as well as fit new ones, including replacing spindles, newels and handrails to meet current spacing rules.
Do you do exterior carpentry like decking and gates?
We do — decking, timber gates, fascia and soffit repairs and similar outdoor joinery.
